College; Then What?
Gordon students come to campus on their first day of freshman year very emotional. They anticipate meeting with their advisor and getting their schedule. Before they know it graduation has arrived! Now, they are walking across the stage with their diploma in hand. Will they exercise their degree or will they have to sit at home with a brain full of knowledge?
Gordon has a place that can help! Career services tries to help relieve some of the stress of life after college. College is a great experience, but while students are having fun they can lose focus on their future. Going to class and learning new things about the world are very important. But, students need to consider career options after the graduation bells ring. Career services help students transition from the secure college life into the professional work force. The dedicated workers in the career services office are here to make sure students become successful Gordon alum, but they have to take the initiative!
“Our job is to help people grow and advance in their job search.”- Pamela Lazarakis, Director of career services
“Career services is a resource center for all students”, said Lazarakis. Since this is a liberal arts college, many students may know what they want to do with their lives, but don’t know the steps to take to ensure a good career. They want students to know the truth about finances. Especially now during the bad economy and more effort is required to get a job.
There are many upcoming events for the students benefit. Workshops and seminars are being provided so that they can gain information and career skills. These skills range from representation to holding a good job interview. They can also work on building their résumé. This is a more relaxed environment where students can be given their first wave of feedback.
Senior, Vroselyn Benjamin have done many summer internships with the help of career services. They have helped her perfect her résumé, phone interview skills, and complete job applications.
